Discovering Gesso on Wood

After the gesso set of 10 minutes we added a bit of texture

We got to work outside  - which was glorious!

Next step will be to add watercolor

A Study of Color and Batiks

We touched on Positive and Negative space before doing the resist part

Mixing their colors, creating shades and tints is just a cool as the painting part!

Jim Dine Hearts

This was meant to be a "filler" project but they all seemed to LOVE it!

A Three-D Peacock out of Clay

These will ultimately be votive holders

We studied and drew Peacocks first

Even the Kindergarteners turned out with a lot of personality

A different way to make a mono print

With colored card stock each student cut out shapes that made an image
We made prints on coated paper and flat
The corrugated cardboard added a nice touch to the finished monoprint.

Leaf Bowls - The glazing part

I wish I had shots of them rolling out the clay and making these bowls.  I was too involved to take pictures that class.  This is the much easier part.

We had a great day to glaze outside.
Three coats!  thats a lot of work!

finishing up our line drawings

We also studied The Five Elements of shape with some drawing exercises last week

Dreaming with Marc Chagall

After splitting a large piece of paper into 4 triangles

Students were to draw a profile of a person, and an animal
The other two triangle showed their dreams

Falon was pleased with how her's came together
I thought it might be fun to do a collaborative piece.....Marc Chagall style

We have work to do on it tomorrow....we'll see how it comes together!
Jackson thinks its going in the Portland Art museum where his dad works :)

Stamping with Found objects - aka "Junk"

After all the Self-Portrait "tight work" I wanted to loosen things up

The boys seemed to really enjoy this one!
They got Loose alright!

Self Portraits Inspired by Chuck Close

After looking at Chuck Close's work each student copied their  cropped face on a grid
Instructions were to choose two colors per square.  Colored Pencil or Marker their choose.

It was nice to have an on going project to pull out and work on at each child pace
Each one incredibly unique

Starting with a picture

paying attention to each part
just an all around good practice drawing exercise
